The Art of Living With Intention

How Ordinary Moments Become Meaningful When We Choose to Inhabit Them Fully.

Good Monday evening I hope your weekend was restful and full of nourishment! I hope you were able to take time to be present to the things that slow you down a bit and fill your soul full of peace.

My weekend was quiet, low key and so full on enrichment. I re-learned how to crochet- something I started 18 years ago, when I had my daughter...but life got busy with a newborn and I never finished her baby blanket. So I've picked it back up and re-taught myself how to make her blanket 18 years later and have been enjoying it so much!

I also spent some time wandering through one of my favorite local flea markets, just to see what I could find. There's something so sweet and special about old things reused and made beautiful again that just fills my heart. Perhaps that weaves us right into the topic for this week, which is The Art of Living With Intention, and for me, it's truly about bringing meaning to everything I do. It's what makes life feel rich, and alive.

I once read a shamanic quote that said something along the lines of "instead of looking for the meaning of things, bring the meaning.'

When we become aware that our actions don't necessarily have to change, but the intention has...then we can bring new meaning to everything in life.

Living with intention doesn’t require changing your entire life; more often, it means changing the way you participate in the life you already have.

Intention can be as simple as opening the curtains each morning and taking a moment to notice the light, making your coffee slowly instead of rushing through it, choosing a beautiful glass for your water because you believe ordinary things are worthy of care, or putting your phone away when someone you love is speaking.

It might mean lighting a candle before dinner, saying a quiet prayer before leaving the house, tending to your home as an act of gratitude rather than another chore, or choosing your words carefully because you understand that what you say leaves something behind. Even the smallest tasks can carry meaning when we decide why we are doing them. Fold the laundry with gratitude for the people who wear it. Take the walk not simply to get your steps in, but to notice the season changing around you. Prepare a meal with the intention of nourishing rather than merely eating.

Before beginning something, quietly ask yourself, What do I want to bring to this moment? Peace? Patience? Beauty? Kindness? Presence? This is how an ordinary life begins to feel sacred, not because every moment is extraordinary, but because you have chosen to stop moving through your days accidentally or unintentionally.

The art of weaving intention into everything we do helps us to craft a life that truly and fully reflects who we are... and I'll say it a hundred times... that is noursing to the mind, body and soul.

Perhaps a beautiful life is an ordinary one filled with extraordinary intentions. And I truly believe that when we put intention and sentiment into things, as we cultivate life around us, especially around the home, we create a place that continues to nurture us day after day. When we move about our space, and we see the moments around our home that were created with intention, we pause and recall that intention ... and living with that kind of daily reward from our intentions becomes incredibly nourishing to the spirit.

Living with intention begins with becoming willing to listen, ...to your body, your inner knowing and the quieter places within you that have been asking for your intention. Sometimes the most powerful and intention thing we can do is allow someone to walk besing us as we seek greater clarity, balance and alignment.
