The Quiet Luxury of Enough

There is a quiet kind of courage in deciding that, perhaps... you don’t need more.

More money.

More recognition.

More healing.

More experiences.

More signs.

More value.

More stuff.

It doesn't lead to more certainty... in fact, quite the opposite.

We live in a world that is constantly asking us what we want next.

And especially in spiritual spaces, we are often encouraged to dream bigger, manifest more, call things in, set more intentions, and visualize the life we desire.

But personally, I think there's something really rich about being able to be present, in depth, with what already is.

When we can do that, we become nourished richly by the present.

Abundance isn’t about having more.

Abundance is a state of experience rather than quantity of possessions.

Abundance is having the capacity to fully experience what is already here, by being fully present to experience it.

The coffee while it is still warm.

The resources you already have within your reach.

The people in your corner.

The meal you took time to prepare.

The familiar weight of your dog curled beside you.

The conversation that makes you forget to check your phone.

The ordinary Tuesday afternoon that, years from now, you would give almost anything to step inside again.

Perhaps wanting less allows us to experience life at a greater depth and fosters our ability to be held by the present.

Because when we are no longer reaching constantly toward the next thing, our hands and hearts are finally free to hold what is already here.

And maybe that is what so many of us are actually longing for.

Not more life.

A deeper intimacy with the life we already have.

There is a richness that becomes available when we stop skimming the surface of our days.

When we linger a little longer.

When we really taste our food.

When we listen without preparing a response.

When we walk outside without needing to photograph it.

When we stop treating the present moment like a hallway leading somewhere better.

We begin to notice things.

The breeze through an open window.

The changing light in the evening.

Someone’s laugh.

The smell of clean sheets.

The strange, beautiful realization that this life, imperfect and unfinished as it may be, is happening right now.

And suddenly, “enough” doesn’t feel like settling.

It feels sacred and rich.

Maybe the invitation this week isn’t to ask:

What else can I call into my life?

Maybe it is to ask:

How deeply can I experience what has already found me?

Because perhaps the richest life isn’t the one filled with the most things, the most accomplishments, the most destinations, or even the most extraordinary moments.

Perhaps it is the life we are awake enough to actually experience.

So this week, want a little less.

Reach a little less.

Rush a little less.

And notice a little more.

Sit longer at the table.

Drink the coffee slowly.

Watch the sunset until the very last sliver disappears.

Listen when someone tells you a story you have heard before.

Let an ordinary moment become enough.

You may discover that the life you have been trying so hard to create has been quietly asking you to come closer all along. And when we stop to be present, we often realize that we're surrounded by what we've prayed for and in that, we should take nourishment.

So this week, I extend an invitation to stop reaching for the next thing and experience the life that is already here.

This week’s journal prompt:

If I stopped asking life for more, what in my life right now would I finally have the space to experience more deeply?
